Google just updated the SEO Starter Guide and in reading it I picked up a few new tips and great reminders.
Check it out; it’s an easy read and breaks things down nicely, offering links to additional information along the way. The keyword research section was way too brief for such an important part of SEO, but it’s a decent intro.
Here’s what I learned:
When the keyword being queried is in a ranking page’s URL, it’s bolded. Bolded keywords encouraging clicks, so that’s a great reason to get keywords into your URLs.
If you’re using an image as a link, Google treats the alt text for that image similarly to the anchor text of a text link. That’s another good reason to use descriptive alt text with keywords.
Image sitemaps are a good idea.
